Beautiful Pale Long Leg

Italy's cultural heritage does not consist solely of magnificent monuments and works of art valued all over the world, but also from the rich array of stories that the people have passed down through the ages , narratives that may be of different types and which can be divided into two main categories: fables and legends.

Of the first there are many collections, ancient or recent, famous or not famous, and most are set in a fantasy world entirely devoid of historical and geographical references.
the contrary, the legends always provide details about the historical and environmental context that are referenced and, for this reason, it is quite easy to go back through them to a place known for a famous individual or reconstruction of a fact narrated in different ways by historians the "official".
laws can have the most different origins and also have a wide variety of topics and writing styles in the majority find the intention to re-read at will el meager historical elements in order to embellish and equip them with meaning, then there will be the moral admonition , the reflections on evil, on the magnanimity and cunning that reside in the hearts of men, and finally, a recurrent element is the sense of awe and wonder that you feel in the face of events seemingly logical and considered supernatural. In particular, this feature in all the legends' s narration, or the pleasure of telling a story and expand flying with the imagination and makes the story even more attractive to the reader.

E 'key pass on tales, legends and superstitions because only in this way can be guaranteed and at the same time strengthen our customs and traditions, in fact, only by maintaining its strong roots and respecting the own native culture can fully appreciate the traditions of other peoples.
ourselves when we read ancient legends and fairy tales, and we make our enhanced with details, just as previous generations have done to our, is a popular tradition alive only when it remains dynamic, in that its shareholders not to crystallize it keeps evolving.

In particular, here present the legends, in my opinion very interesting, covering three lakes of northern Italy, still curious tourists destinations.

LAKE LAVARONE 1

One hundred and fifty years ago lived in Lavarone an old man with two children, good guys working in the fields all day and who helped her father whenever they were allowed.
Gradually, over time, the old man became ill but before his death so he will and left everything to his children, as long as everything was divided equally, the only exception was the forest beech that he possessed at noon from the church and would be inherited by his son more deserving.
Boys adhere to the guidelines expressed in his will, dividing everything equally, except for the forest. For the latter, they decided to go to court and seek the judge, who did not know what advice to give, but the two boys had an idea while they were on the way back: when you get home, have a sharp knife for each and the next day at dawn, they would go into the forest to compete with the knives. The winner would inherit the beech forest.
Once home, the fact implemented its plan: affiliation knives and went to sleep. The next day they rose early to prepare for the battle, but, approaching the place, were surprised to find a lake where before there was wood object of their contention, they were not, therefore, need to fight and they left the lake the City of Lavarone.
According to today when told by local people, when the fishermen go to fish in various parts of the lake, still pulling on the surface of beech branches.

THE LEGEND OF LAKE SAINT 2

Many people wonder why the mountain lake dominated by Mount Giovo, on the border between Tuscany and Emilia Romagna, is known as the "saint" and as an explanation that there is an ancient legend is still told by old mountain Tagliole.
Two centuries ago, in the lush woods surrounding Lake St., various living beasts: in the midst of foxes, weasels and badgers also appeared the wolves. In winter, when snow was falling thick, the animals were driven by hunger and went out of their burrows in search of ewes, lambs and rabbits to eat.

In that winter of 1801 There was an old wolf, cunning and voracious predator, which had taken so many sheep and lambs to the shepherds in the area, despite these traps were placed in narrow places and along the paths near the houses. The footprints in the snow indicated the coming of the voracious wolf and its return to the lair of the Mount Jupiter, while the blood shed here and there suggested that the animal had sacrificed many victims to satiate.
One Sunday Ulysses decided by mutual agreement with Tonio going to hunt the wolf, following in the footsteps he left on the snow, they would not return home until they have killed the animal.
They arrived at the icy expanse of the lake and there, near Mount Giovo, waited properties that the wolf came out of his hole, which he certainly was in the woods nearby, so of course the wolf was passing before them. However that morning it seemed that the animal was not going to go out and the two mountaineers spent hours and hours of waiting until suddenly one hears the mysterious silence of those places the bell of noon, he called to put the locals.
hearing that sound, Tonio came out of hiding and said to Odysseus that he would go to church every Sunday as he was wont to do; Ulysses looked at him with wonder, almost mocking, and said to his companion that he would have been waiting for the wolf, and then kill him, skin him and bring them home in triumph to the skin.
time that Toni went to church, here is that the wolf was advancing cautiously into the open, lazily moving his head and sniffing the cold winter air, and Ulises ready, took aim and fired. The echo of the shot rang out in the long silence of the valley.
He finished the animal with a second shot, feeling triumphant and already anticipating the fact that the glory was all his own, once back in the country. Meanwhile knelt to scuioare the wolf, whose hot blood, coming out and gurgling streams, flowing in streams in the snow, dissolution, when he was carrying out the work he felt a sudden noise, such as the glass is broken here is that the ice opened, breaking immediately and Ulysses launched a desperate cry, Seeing in the company of the wolf quickly disappear into the icy waters of the lake. Then all was quiet and in silence.
After Mass, Tonio Odysseus returned from the lake but saw a large pool of blood nearby and heard the gurgling water. He immediately put his hands through his hair and opened his eyes, he understood everything. Immediately ran along the road and told the incident terrified the country, the unbelievers went to the lake to see what had happened and they were speechless with horror.
In spring, the snow disappeared and the ice broke up, the lake back to shore, one day the wolf's body lying inert between the stones: all over the country gathered to see him. Ulysses, however, no trace, not even the other spit him back to the shore of the lake and never came back to light, it was thought that perhaps lying in the bottom of the water, entangled in the weeds.
But from that day on the lake quiet until then, no one knows why, stirred; sometimes dangerously overflowing and coming down to the valley to damage houses, pens, meadows, frightening the men and flocks.
The parish priest, after thinking long and hard about this abnormal phenomenon, thought to bless the waters and fix them forever in their bed, making a return to peace time. The next morning they were all in procession to the lake there, the parish priest, spoke with a serious face and pressing their fingers crossed, reading the book from the old grease that had brought and sprinkled with holy water for a long time, often with the arm gestures the waters of the lake. Once the ceremony all returned to their homes.
From that day on the waters roar and neither more nor flooded, almost stood still as the mountains that surrounded them. From that day of blessing the lake became a "saint" and for this reason it is still called the Holy Lake.

LAKE Subiolo 3

Subiolo The lake is a with a very narrow area, surrounded by mountains and located not far from Valstagna, it is fed by water that flows constantly from under the rocks and when it rains it swells considerably.
Tradition says that long ago, people wanted to measure the depth of the lake, they tied together the strings of five bells and Valstagna, stopping at the end of the bell clapper, tried to reach the bottom without succeed.
On the banks of the lake rise the Rocky Mountains, speckled with clumps of beech trees and a few tufts of grass here and there.
Sobiolo The lake has an outlet that flows in Brenta, when the rains are abundant, it becomes deep and impetuous, and the waters flowing over large rocks fallen from the mountains, foaming loudly, on the contrary, when the lake level drops, lick the moss that forms on the water.
Above emissary there is a bridge called Subiolo the same way: when you go there at night you hear screams and zuffolii (in local dialect subioi ) come from the lake that there is not visible, because hidden by a ledge of the mountain. Subiolo The name seems to derive from these unusual noises at night.
The local population supports that the place is inhabited by fairies and Beatrice and the subioi depend just by their presence. Among those who have seen these fairies is the carpenter Marco Michelini.
One evening Mark had gone to visit his girlfriend, was returning home with his quick pace and had to cross the bridge Subiolo and there had been many times but tonight the moon appeared brighter than usual and the water Subiolo were of silver.
Climbed on the bridge, he heard himself called, but tried to convince himself that he was wrong. The voice repeated his name again and again, until he turned and saw the Water Fairy dancing that made him a sign to approach, "Come, come with us! You've never experienced the happiness that we have! As long as the moon is shining, come dance with us. " "No, no! There is a deep lake. If I'm with you drown. "
" Are you afraid? "Asked Mark to do the laughing. "Look, the water is gone, there's more! Come. "
The water was really missing, you could see the bottom of the stones sparkle in the rays of the moon, the fairies were sitting quietly on the moss of the rocks and dry.
"No, no," repeated the young man as though he was subdued, he could not break away from the parapet of the bridge.
"So if you do not want to be happy with us," said the fairies, "I want to give a grace. So I will always remember us. Ask what you want ".
The young carpenter, trembling, stammered: "I wish ... I wish that my hands were able to do any carving." "Okay ... So be it!" They told him to do. "But, remember, you'll never be rich with your work."
The water then taken out from the fiery lake foaming against the rocks, the leaves of beech trees rustled, the shadow of the mountain was still: the moon had sunk behind the top and suddenly you were gone.
Since that day, Mark became a skilled engraver and the church of Valstagna you can still admire his work.
